About SOWMIYA SREE
Breath Science Writer & Author
I’m Sowmiya Sree, a breath science writer & author, and the creator of BreathX², where I explore the science, evolution, and practice of conscious breathing.
My Journey
My fascination with human physiology began early and eventually led me to pharmacy studies and a postgraduate degree in Pharmacognosy, where I was honored with the Gold Medal, presented by my role model, the late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India.
My journey into breath science started just before the COVID-19 pandemic when I joined a yoga class. As the world slowed down, I found myself diving deeper into pranayama, meditation, and the growing body of research behind them. The changes I experienced—physically, mentally, and spiritually—sparked a question that would shape my work:
What happens when ancient breathwork meets modern science?
My pharmacy background gave me the tools to evaluate scientific research, while my personal practice revealed how those findings translate into everyday life. Together, they became the foundation of everything I write.
What I Explore
Through research and practice, I've come to see conscious breathing as far more than a relaxation technique. My work explores its connections to:
- Nervous system regulation
- Stress resilience and emotional balance
- Cognitive performance and mental clarity
- Physical wellbeing and energy
- Meditation, spirituality, and self-awareness
- Long-term health and everyday habits
My Mission
We take roughly 20,000 breaths every day, yet most happen without conscious awareness.
My mission is to bridge the gap between scientific research and practical life, making breath science accessible, understandable, and actionable for everyone. Every book, article, and newsletter I create is designed to help readers understand how one ordinary biological process can become a powerful tool for improving health, focus, resilience, and well-being.
For Curious Minds
Whether you're a wellness enthusiast, a science-minded reader, or someone simply looking for practical ways to feel better, I hope you'll find something valuable here.
I don't believe conscious breathing is a cure-all—but I do believe it is one of the most overlooked tools for supporting a healthier, calmer, and more intentional life.
Within every breath lies an opportunity to reconnect with your body, your mind, and the present moment. I'm still exploring that journey myself, and I'm glad you're here to explore it with me.
