About Me

Hello! I am Sowmiya Sree, a breath science researcher, wellness author, and expert in conscious breathing techniques.

My journey into the world of breath science started with a deep curiosity about how our bodies work. I always love studying science, especially the human physiology (but struggled with math a lot) I found my passion leading me into pharmacy studies. Later, I pursued my postgraduate studies in Pharmacognosy, where I was honored to receive the gold medal from my role model, the late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former president of India. A moment I will cherish my whole life.

My Breath Journey

But my real journey with breath started just before the COVID-19 pandemic when I joined a yoga class, by the way, thanks to my gurus. With lockdowns and boredom surrounding me, I delved deeper into yoga and meditation practice. The transformation I experienced through conscious breathing practices was profound physically, mentally, and spiritually. With yoga, I awakened to additional levels of energy and awareness. It changed something remarkable within me. The power of conscious breathing was remarkable; what if I successfully integrated it with modern scientific findings?

A unique blend of scientific curiosity and the practical application of yoga and meditation played out to be a perfect combination to explore every aspect of breath. My pharmacy background helped me to analyze complex research papers and scientific jargon. With consistent yoga practice, it was easy to convert these scientific findings into accessible wisdom for everyone.

  • The more I learned, the more fascinated I became with breath’s role in:
  • Physical wellness and energy optimization
  • Mental clarity and emotional balance
  • Spiritual growth and consciousness
  • Performance enhancement and stress management
  • Overall health and longevity

Thus, the journey of transforming lives through the science and art of conscious breathing started.

My Mission and Vision

My goal is ambitious yet simple: to transform billions of lives globally by harnessing the power of breath. I believe that by adding consciousness to this unconscious act, which we perform roughly 25,000 times a day, we can unlock profound improvements in both internal and external health. I approach this mission by bridging the gap between complex scientific research and practical application. I am thriving, too.

  • Understand the science behind breathing
  • Master conscious breathing techniques
  • Improving physical and mental wellness
  • Enhance performance and energy levels
  • Achieve optimal health through proper breathing

Praise

I am close to halfway through this book which I found by searching for breath and energetics. It is a brilliant, simple and gentle way to learn of the power of our breath. It is told in a story form giving us the journey of a highly stressed executive. Virtually everyone in the modern world can relate to this woman who reaches a point in her life where she is drawn to discover more about herself. She reluctantly realizes that her path up until now is no longer serving her. I can more than related to this. The breath is a gentle yet powerful way into knowing ourselves better and being the person we know deep down we wish to be.

The book is practical and spiritual in equal measure. It begins with the medical science and moves deeper at a consistent pace. I am just entering into the part of the book exploring techniques. The book is not trying to sell anything, but the knowledge and power of our breath, the one thing we do every moment of our days. Even if there was nothing left to learn in this book I would be overjoyed to have learned what I already have. Perhaps reminded is a better word than simply learning - both then. I do have no doubt that I will learn much more in the technique sections.

I can highly recommend this book and complements to the author for her clear and wise writing, and her observations and experiences. Our breath is indeed a doorway into a much easier and happier life. I am sold on that now. This book is meant to inspire us to experience and witness ourselves through our breath. Mission accomplished. Bravo!

The Power of Conscious Breathing is not just another wellness book. It teaches how something we all do—breathing—can actually reduce stress, boost focus, and bring calm if done the right way.

I really liked Maya’s story. Her panic attack felt real and relatable, and her slow, steady growth gave me hope. The breathing techniques in the book are explained clearly. I tried a few like Bhramari and Nadi Shodhana, and they genuinely helped with sleep and stress.

What stood out most was how the author mixes ancient yogic wisdom with modern science in a very simple, respectful way. No fluff. Just practical, useful advice for real life. Even the science was easy to understand.

I also liked how the book didn’t ask for big lifestyle changes—just small steps that fit into your day. It’s great for working professionals, students, or anyone feeling overwhelmed.

A few diagrams or visuals would’ve helped beginners more, but overall, this book is honest, helpful, and calming. Highly recommended!
